Cigarette wrapper: the paper which is used to wrap the tobacco is called the cigarette wrapper. It is made of linen fiber or flax. A lot of other chemicals like sodium, potassium, salts are added to this flax or fiber in order to reduce the burning rate of the cigarette. Calcium carbonate, a whitening pigment is added to the paper. This is done mainly to give an attractive ash when the cigarette is burnt.

Additives: during the manufacturing process hundreds of additives are used, to keep the tobacco moist. To name a few are rum, sugar, menthol, fruit juices and others. Urea, which is a chemical, is used to add flavor to the cheap cigarettes.

• The most widely used cigarette is the one which is made of menthol.
